Meet the Captains
Eric Blankfield
Eric has been sailing since the age of four. He has lived aboard boats for 15 years and was brought up sailing the Santa Barbara Channel and more extended cruising trips with his family. He has also raced Lasers and J/24s and has sailed on larger boats in such races as the Newport to Ensenada Race.
He began working on a large dive boat as a deckhand and had his captain's license by the age of 22. Since then, Eric has skippered several boats, primarily the Double Dolphin, a 50-foot sailing catamaran, which he captained for five years. He's also skippered and delivered research vessels, dive boats, and many sailboats and powerboats up to 97 tons. His voyages have taken him to Mexico, the Caribbean, Hawaii, and up and down the west and east coasts.
In addition to being a full-time captain, Eric is working toward a career in yacht design. He also resurrected an Ericson 32 from certain death. With a new epoxy bottom, professional LP paint job and new rigging, Eric got this classic Bruce King designed gem floating again.
